Bonita Riding area / track report

How to get there

Well, for the most part ya go like you're going to Muenster, which is to say up I-35 from Denton  ( or Ft. Worth ), until you get to Gainsville. Then take Hwy 82 West towards Muenster, only you'll go through Muenster, & continuing on Hwy 82, you'll pass through Lindsay, & St. Jo. Then about five miles past St. Jo, you'll see 1815. That's your turn, right.

Of course some of you may want to come up 287 north to,  oh, say, hwy 59, & head off north east towards St. Jo, and then pick up Hwy 82 west to 1815.

Now, after about three fourths of a mile, 1815 kinda 'jogs' off to the right, and I think they call it Old Bonita Rd. there. At any rate, you'll stay to the right toward Bonita ( but you'll still be on 1815 ), & as you leave town ( don't miss it ), on 1815 now going north, you'll see Talley Rd on your right, about a quarter of a mile past town, turn right there. I guess it's about one & three quarters mile down that road to the track.

Don't forget that you can zoom in or out, & print this map as needs be.

Track conditions, gearing, tires, etc.

Description:   From what I understand, The Stidds, usually pretty good race 'putter oners', had difficulty with their regularly scheduled chunk of land, & had to do a rush job on an alternate site... you may wanna bring the sand tires for this one. Though it's right across the way from Bonita Phase One, this track may not be as varied as the first. From what I understand, it's on 250 acres, with about 50 of that being 'treed' area. And for those of you who gear up for fast tracks ...well this is supposed to be a fast one. Watch out for the soft stuff though, remember how it saps power !

Soil:   My 'sources' say...Uh...sand, with dust...and a rock or two as I understand it.   ...but we may get rain...humph!

Elevation:   I've also been led to believe that there is little in the way of elevation change on this one.

Dust:  Without intervention from above  ( I think you know what I mean ) the possibility exists that you'll need your best holeshot for this one...I mean, as of this writing I don't think it's rained there in a thousand years.

Spectator Rating:  I hate to say this folks, but as this is a new track, I can't be sure of anything.  But, as wide open as I've been led to believe this place is, Spectating ( with the exception of dust ) should be a simple affair.

Camping / Parking rating:  Again as I have only my 'reporters' to go on I'll have to claim 'no personal knowledge' of this piece of property, though, again, a flat area, is usually easy enough to camp on...bring the easy up though.

Normal Hours of Operation / Fees: Of course the normal TCCRA fees will apply here, & as this is private property, it will probably only be open for the race.

Hotels I'm not sure, but the last time I went to Bonita, the closest hotel was back in Muenster. However, Donna Cox tells us that there are two decent places in Nacona ( west of Bonita ) The nacona Inn @ 940.825.8800. And Nacona Hills Inn @ 940.825.3161  about $45 a night- single, King,  No smoking, room.

Reconnaissance  Photographs

It was my intent to fly over this track & get some color shots before the race, but duty called at the place I work enough over the past two weeks that I was unable. However, just for fun, I have these...

This is the Bonita area, hwy 82 crosses from bottom center of the picture to about 9 o'clock .

OK, now this is Talley Rd. as it comes from the upper left corner ( that's the town of Bonita up in the upper left as well ).

bonita_track_area.jpg (93831 bytes)

And this one should give us an idea of the track area itself, though most of this shot is the area where the last race was...if my coordinates are anywhere close to correct.

botopo.jpg (51841 bytes)

For those of you who can read a topo map, here it is. It looks flat, with a forty foot rise ( hill ) to the east (under the word 'creek' ). The black line from right to left is Talley Rd. We rode on the north side last time, I believe we're riding on the south side this time.

And it looks as though there may be a creek right in the middle of the area...though I'm not sure it has water !!

Again, sorry I couldn't provide you guys & gals with any more than this, but if I can, before the race, I'll update this page with more accurate info. I'll call Mr. Stidd this week & ask if I can look at the area & get some pics. (Update) I called...he didn't think it was ready for such.
